Leather Care Guide

Leather Care

Your Comfort Hound leather gear is made from full grain vegetable-tanned leather — a natural material that improves with age and develops its own character over time. With a little care it will last for years of daily walks.

After muddy walks Wipe the collar down with a damp cloth and allow it to dry naturally. Don’t leave mud to dry on the leather as it can draw out moisture and accelerate wear.

If the collar gets wet Remove it after swimming or heavy rain and allow it to dry naturally away from direct heat. Never dry on a radiator or in direct sunlight as this can cause the leather to harden and crack.

Conditioning Occasionally apply a small amount of leather balm with a soft cloth to keep the leather supple. Less is more — a thin coat worked in well is better than a heavy application. Allow it to absorb fully before putting the collar back on your dog.

Colour transfer As with all dyed leather, some colour transfer may occur when wet, particularly onto light or white coats. This is a natural characteristic of the material and not a fault.

Spot-on flea treatments Always remove your collar before applying spot-on flea treatments. The solvents in these products can damage leather, affect dyes, and degrade the finish. Allow the treatment to dry fully on your dog’s coat — typically 24-48 hours — before putting the collar back on. This also ensures the treatment absorbs properly into the skin rather than transferring onto the collar.

What to avoid
